But out of this expansive rogues gallery, Venom is the magnum opus that reprises every emotional note the rest of the game has played. Spider-Man 2 foreshadows the looming threat he poses over dozens of its 31 main story missions. Thankfully, you’ll have massively-enhanced gadgetry and powers by the time you finally face him. Despite Spider-Man 2’s relatively forgiving system requirements, the game seems to seriously struggle on PC. I have experienced multiple crashes while playing the game, with the first coming right after the initial cutscenes and before any gameplay. In one particularly annoying instance, the game crashed and even though I closed out of it completely, the audio kept blaring from my computer speakers until I reset my PC.

Despite its problems at launch, the PC port of Spider-Man 2 does have one big upside for gamers on the platform. For those with a hazy memory, there is a brief recap of both Peter and Miles’ stories so far available, which is handy, as this is very much a sequel that weaves in both plotlines and characters from the previous games and accompanying DLC. The symbiote convinces Harry to “heal the world” by infecting everyone on Earth with symbiotes, starting with New York. Harry, now calling his symbiote Venom, transforms Mary Jane into Scream, but Peter helps her break free after battling and reconciling with her. As Peter and Miles attempt to stop Venom, Peter is debilitated by a trace amount of the symbiote still within him. After Miles settles his differences with Li, the latter uses his powers to convert Peter’s symbiote traces into the Anti-Venom Symbiote and becoming him into Anti-Venom Spider-Man, which can destroy other symbiotes. Concurrently, Venom recovers the meteorite that originally brought him to Earth and empowers himself with it, accelerating his infestation on New York.

I can’t speak for how Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 will actually run, moment to moment, though I do think Nixxes’s full-spectrum approach is the way to go for these biggest and shiniest of big, shiny games. Stuff it with high-end tech for those who want it, sure, but offer properly scaled-down Low and Ultra Low settings to keep things accessible for those on less bank-breaking hardware. At first, players may be wondering what Kraven’s actual motivation is other than finding the strongest opponent to kill.

The Deluxe version of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 PC will feature all Standard Edition content and additional stuff. Standard Edition includes all the latest updates for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 since the game launched on PS5. They can use aerodynamic tunnels scattered throughout New York to do so. Other than that, they have one exclusive skill tree each, making for three in total. We’ll gain many abilities known from the previous games as well as some entirely new ones, unique for each character, coming in handy in combat and during stealth. Miles, for example, can attach a string of web between two specific points, letting him get above enemies and take them out quietly – even two at a time if they position themselves correctly. Other skills include chaining lightning or releasing lightning bursts.

The only villains we get are Kraven, Venom, Sandman, The Lizard, and Mysterio (kind of). They set up The Chameleon and Carnage but they don’t actually do anything. And that’s not even mentioning side characters like Silver Sable who easily could’ve returned in some capacity. With the small exception of a Mister Negative boss fight, but he doesn’t do anything until that point.
