Peter manages to retrieve the serum from Kraven, who discovers the exosuit’s weakness to loud noises. After Peter and Harry synthesize an antidote for Connors, Peter locates him with Miles’ help and eventually defeats and cures him. Upon seeing Peter wearing the exosuit, Connors reveals that it is actually an alien lifeform called a Symbiote, which Oscorp obtained years prior from a meteorite, and warns Peter to destroy it. Under 777X as Symbiote Spider-Man, Peter refuses and keeps it for himself despite learning that Harry’s illness has returned, straining their friendship. As Peter goes on a mindless symbiote-induced rampage against the Hunters (even nearly killing Mary Jane at one point), Kraven captures Miles and forces him to fight Li.
But Martin Li is only seen about two times before he and Miles fight, and then he isn’t seen again until he’s redeemed and loses his powers. Spider-Man 3 is shaping up to be all about the Green Goblin and a returning Doc Ock. They are two of the greatest Spider-Man villains, but they’ll need a good supporting cast to back them up. There are so few important landmarks in this version of New York City that the game could’ve taken place in a regular town and felt no different. Kraven the Hunter is the main villain for most of Spider-Man 2 and he isn’t anywhere near interesting or dynamic enough to be in that role. Instead, there are 4 combat abilities for each character, and 4 shared gadgets.

The new parry mechanic is essential to dealing with some of the undodgeable strikes particular enemies use. You can still swing away to escape, but a well-timed parry not only stops the incoming attack but leaves an enemy vulnerable to further damage. And then there’s the new Web Line mechanic which lets you craft your own high wire paths across specific points in the environment, giving you even more control and flexibility over stealth takedowns. That leads to the obvious balance that Sony and Nixxes have struck with this game. For the best-looking graphics, you’ll need a top-spec, modern gaming rig with a ray tracing-capable GPU.
PC Purchase Perks include an Arachknight Suit for Peter and a Shadow-Spider Suit for Miles (with 3 color variants each), a Web Grabber Gadget, and +3 Skill Points. With a PlayStation Network account connection, players can receive two additional suits, the Spider-Man 2099 Black Suit and the Miles Morales 2099 Suit. A PSN account is optional, though, and not required in order to play Spider-Man 2 on PC.
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 delivers an incredible story about heroes and villains grappling with loneliness. Spider-Man 2 feels like it’s right in the centre of Sony’s blockbuster sequel design philosophy. Where Horizon Forbidden West did the same thing but bigger, The Last of Us Part 2 elevated itself technologically, narratively, and most importantly, ambitiously. Spider-Man 2 falls between these approaches – it has some of Horizon’s safety, but with a slice of the elevation The Last of Us brought. Spider-Man 2 is the future of polished, competent, elevated sequels, and brings with it so many technical flourishes and a perfect execution of the formula that it stands in a class of its own.
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 was first revealed during Sony’s 2021 PlayStation Showcase event. The initial trailer gave us a look at Peter Parker and Miles Morales in action together, with Venom joining the fight at the very end. During PlayStation’s September 2023 State of Play, Insomniac showcased a closer look at Marvel’s New York. Senior Creative Director Bryan Intihar noted that this version of New York is nearly twice the size of the original game, thanks to the addition of the Queens and Brooklyn boroughs.

Despite a couple of new tricks up its sleeve, Spider-Man 2’s combat is very familiar – it doesn’t have that new suit smell anymore, but it still feels incredibly comfy to slip back into. The rhythm of precision dodges, the new perfect parries (so you’re not only swerving and striking now), and acrobatic finishers are hugely satisfying, as is chasing high-hit combos to keep the fight as stylish as possible. The movement is smooth and the hits are crunching, like some sort of peanut butter hybrid that every one of your foes is allergic to.

Even with the dense world of Spider-Man 2, the quick traversal that is possible in-game, and how that impacts the loading time of the environments, the RAM requirements still stick to 16GB at 1440p, keeping it in line with the PS5’s own specs. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 has almost identical specs to Horizon Forbidden West, another PS5 game ported to PC. While older rigs can handle this game at 720p, you’ll need one of the best graphics card picks from our extensive buying guide if you’re going to be pushing for the highest graphical presets at high resolutions with ray tracing enabled.
The first game will always be better but this one is still a great game that’s definitely worth playing. Even though the four metal arms are usually reserved for the Iron Spider suit. Insomniac brought back the ability to change the super-suit you have equipped. They reduced the amount of suits Peter has, as Peter and Miles each have their own suits.
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is a fantastic superhero adventure that builds upon the strengths of its predecessors. While the PC port has experienced some initial technical hiccups, Insomniac’s responsiveness and the overall quality of the game shine through. Whether you’re swinging through New York on a high-end PC or enjoying the portable thrills on the Steam Deck, this game is a must-play for any Spider-Man fan.
On PC in 2025, without those advantages and in a disappointingly shaky state, it’s much more difficult to recommend. Where the first game starred Peter Parker, and its spin-off starred Miles, this one has both. Story missions choose for you, but often swap seamlessly between them as the action demands.
Including various upscaling technologies and graphics options ensures that you can fine-tune the experience to your preferences and hardware capabilities. Nixxes is a studio with a great track record for porting games such as this one, with the company ensuring that Nvidia DLSS 3 and AMD FSR 3.1, along with Intel XeSS upscaling, are included from day one. This means that you should have ready access to upscaling options to get the best balance of performance and image quality for your needs, as long as your PC has the power to match the presets you use. Meanwhile, the 12-core Intel Core i K or AMD Ryzen X (or better) will be sufficient for the gaming CPU, with the RAM requirement still set at 16GB. With these specs, set your graphics preset to high, but set your ray tracing settings to very high.
