FromSoftware as a company has moved on from Demon’s Souls in a major way, and it didn’t have anything to do with the remake from Bluepoint. Unfortunately, despite a Demon’s Souls 2 being theoretically possible, it’s very unlikely it ever gets made due to Sony owning the Demon’s Souls IP. The original Demon’s Souls was developed by FromSoftware, but it was published by Sony exclusively for the PlayStation 3. Sony owns the Demon’s Souls IP and published the 2020 remake developed by Bluepoint Games. This creates a unique situation where Sony owns the IP, but FromSoftware owns the creative DNA (combat systems, world-building style, etc). Like the Short Sword, the Broad Sword is another sword that falls a little short when it comes to length.
Perhaps the only downside to this quality weapon is so common that many players can easily parry it during PVP. Coming down towards the end of the list, players will find that the Short Sword is one of the better swords in the game. Though they may not be able to inflict physical damage on enemies if they are below the Scraping Spear’s utility level, they can still inflict its durability damage. You can also reduce the effectiveness of enemy armor and weapons, making even the most tank-like foes and bosses more manageable to face.
I can’t overstate how huge this is for a game like Demon’s Souls, in which you’re expected to die over and over again and also to repeatedly reset a level for the purpose of farming. There’s still an annoyingly common tendency to use a shove attack when I don’t mean to, and I wish the developers had done something to better explain World Tendency to newcomers. But those nitpicks notwithstanding, Bluepoint did an excellent job of updating Demon’s Souls to modern standards without changing the core of its gameplay.
